When i switch laptop on all i get is windows xp loading

my laptop is a acer extensa 5630, 64bit with windows 7 installed.It switches on to the xp logo and no further also f8 does not work

does the loading screen keep moving or is it hung? it may be your hard disc is disconnected or failed, check in bios
