I am trying to install the Ultima Collection on Windows 2000 professional
and when I click setup it does nothing? Does anyone know how to get it to
install on Win2000/XP? Please help if you can!

Thanks!

Don't use the install routine from the CD - it doesn't work!
Instead, copy/unzip/whatever the games manually.

You might need utilities like Exult (for the Ultima 7's), Mo'Slo',
DOSbox, VDMSound etc. to get some of the games up and running.

Happy gaming!

How do I copy and unzip the games manually? Will just copying all the files
on the install CD to a folder on the desktop work for Ultima Collection?
Anyone able to help?

For U7: Make a directory called <drive>\games\U7 and unzip the U7.zip
into that directory.
For Serpent Isle (U7/2) do the same (<drive>\games\serpent>.

Then run the install.exe's and select some SB- or MIDI-card in the
configuration options. You get an error message, but just ignore it.

Then install Exult (http://exult.sourceforge.net/), point it to the
directories you install to, and there you go.

The earlier Ultimas can be copied as is, iirc, but you might need
VDMSound and/or Slo'Mo to run some of them.

I never got U8 Pagan running on my Win2K-system. If you find a way, let
me hear about it.

And what version of the Ultima collection has zipfiles?

Mine, which is the rerelease from 1998, has the files all raw:

[jpmorris@localhost jpmorris]$ ls /mnt/cdrom/ultima7/
endgame.exe install.prm mainmenu.exe static u7.cfg ultima7.com
install.exe intro.exe moslo.com u7.bat u7.exe ultima7.txt

...this means the files are all read-only, and this has to be fixed
with attrib before the games will work.

If you have enough horsepower, I would recommend using DOSbox to
run all the games: (http://dosbox.sf.net/)

You do have to have a basic understanding of how to use a computer,
and Pagan will probably be slow, unless your machine is bang
up-to-date.

Thanks for the info. MY machine isn't the fastest, but I keep it going
nicely. Just got a Radeon 9600XT which seems to tear through any game I
throw at it at reasonable resolutions:) I actually got the install to work
by copying the entrie CD to my desktop then unchecking "read only" from all
the files, then running the installer... Weird stuff? I think the CD copy
portection program must have been causing the problem! Anyway, I will try
DOS box, but I plan to use Exult and U4Virtue of Humility, etc... for the
games; I just needed to get them on the HD, I think. Thanks for all the
help all!

Ah, well, it might be an .exe-file. I actually tried to dig out the CD
to check, but couldn't find it. Anyway the installation files for U7 and
SI is in the root of my CD (as opposed to the rest, iirc) - I'll check
it as soon as I get the time.

I was wrong. The two U7's are in two seperate dirs, that can be copied
directly (remember to execute a attrib -r command to remove read-only
attribute when copying from CD!)

I was confusing Ultima Collection with "The Complete Ultima 7", sorry.
