6 channels is 5.1. 5 speaker channels plus a subwoofer channel. See the three analog connections on the back, you can use the Line Out for front, the Line In for rear, and the Microphone In for Center/Sub. The function of these jacks is configured in software. Of course that means you don't have any inputs, simply because Asus said "fahk j00".
And you can get 5.1 out of the digital output. Notice there are no digital inputs. Again Asus says "fahk j00".
Two more reasons I recommend the Abit IS7 over the Asus P4P800. The other reasons were the IS7 having firewire and SATA RAID, and costing less than the base P4P800. Of course you get those features on the P4P800 Deluxe, at a full 50% premium over the IS7.
Anyway, I have a P4C800-E, and the sound is pretty good. Same sound as the P4P800-D.
