this is from someone elses post :)

Dual channel offers only a small increase in performance on AMD ysytems (bigger increase for intel cpu's running in dual channel). Running the ram and cpu at different FSB speeds hinders performance in AMD systems. If you're thinking of getting, say a Barton cpu it's FSB is 166. Then you're going to want ram that's at least pc2700 (FSB at 166), better still is pc3200 (FSB at 200).

If you get pc3200 and good mobo (e.g., Abit nf7-S) you can increase the FSB of the Barton cpu to 200. The ram and the cpu are in sync (this also is sort of an overclock for the cpu).

Ok this is my bit :)

Ok my freind has an Asus A7N8x Delux, AMD 2500+, and is thinking of getting Corsair TwinX 512 3700.

could someone explain to me how to get the CPU FSB the same as the MEM please ive looked at a few posts but cant quite work out the numbers what FSB is the CPU and the MEM ??? :) yes i know i must be thick.

Thanks for your help

Also should i go for 512Mb 3700 or 1Gig 3700 ??? will Win ME use 1Gig or is 512 just fine ??
Edited by Pickie on 12/27/03 09:30 AM.

The materials used for the said memory is not good for this kind of system. I would recommend two Corsair XMS PC3500 C2 memory modules or Mushkin PC3200/3500 Level-II Dual-Pack instead. Manually set memory timings (CAS Latency - RAS to CAS Delay - RAS Precharge Delay - Active Precharge Delay) to 2-2-2-11. "DDR Reference Voltage" at 2.75V+.

In the BIOS, set "Memory Frequency" to 100 percent.

I'm not terribly familiar with this OS. Maybe one of my fellow members can shed light on this? Or could search the forum for threads related to Win ME and memory. I've heard Win ME can't handle more than 512 megs of memory but not 100 percent sure if this is still the case.

If going with Corsair, get two Corsair XMS PC3500 C2 256MB memory modules - Model# CMX256A-3500C2PT or Model# CMX256A-3500C2. It is Corsair's strongest memory module for this kind of system.
