Laptop less than £600

I have a tiny little problem, I was wondering if anyone could help with.

I'm looking for a laptop of less than or equal to £600, with the following core capabilities:

• can play DX9 games such as LOTR BFME2 and HL-2 at 30-40fps, an adequate level;
• can play older games well;
• can do the basics, with 802.11g connectivity and a DVD drive.

It would be nice but is certainly not necessary if:

• it has a small form factor (e.g. SONY VIAO style);
• it is light in weight (e.g. <1.75kg).

It would be ideal if it did not have the following:

• preinstalled commercial software (i prefer opensource s/w anyway).

I'm asking for your help mostly because I seem to have no knowledge of the mobile counter-parts of desktop graphics cards, so can't tell the good from the damn ugly.
