Blinking activity light on SATA drive

I have a Dell that came with a Maxtor 120GB SATA HD. The activity light constantly blinks at 1 second intervals even at an idle state (not standby). Is this normal for these drives/controllers. I've been away from hardware development for a while, so this kind of concerns me.

I don't have antivirus running or background apps other than ZoneAlarm. MS-Messenger has been blitzed and I run Adaware once in a while.

Specs;
P4 2.8GHz HT
512MB RAM
120GB Maxtor SATA HDD
766MB Virtual (system assigned)
16X Samsung DVD-ROM
TEAC DVD+RW (DV-W58E)

Thanks.

Try turning off the <A HREF="http://www.windows-help.net/WindowsXP/tune-18.html" target="_new">Indexing Service</A>.
