for some reason, all the folders on my computer are organized by "type"
instead of having the folders first and then going alphabetically. i have
tried several ways to change this for the entire computer, but for some
reason it only changes the folder i am in, and then upon restart they are
back to being arranged by type. i'm not sure how this setting even got turned
"on", but does anyone know how to change it once and for all? any help would
be greatly appreciated. thanks!

"i have tried several ways to change this"
Means it a waste of time to talk to you. Are you just here so you can say to people "oh, i'm a little poofter and I already tried that".
Either post correctly or don't post at all.

A little information from you will help you to get the info you ask for.
What have you tried? That will save people repeating what you've done and
should help to make sure that it is the things you haven't tried that is
posted. This is important as it may also give a clue.
I'll assume it is the Windows Explorer you are using - please advise if it
is a different program.
Is it the folders when viewed in the RH pane, or under the drive on the lh
pane when you click on the drive? Or both?
Are you setting the order by clicking on the column header or through the
View Menu?
Have you tried saving the Windows settings when they are the way you want?
(Hold the shift key down then double click the control box that is top left
of the window as if you were closing the window. The window will close.
Release the Shift key. Re-open Windows Explorer. Did that work?
Please repost with a bit more info, or advise if the above worked.

Many people don't like to waste their time to tell you what to do, only to
have you come back and say "I already tried that".
So, state what you have tried! Then others will see what you have missed and
assist you with ease.
