computer freezes. i have already defraged, checkedr for errrors, viruses, and
spyware. i dont know what else to do. i have no problem logging in when no
one is logged on just when other accounts are logged on.

What are your computer's hardware specs? Things you should tell us to
help us focus the troubleshooting:
1. Your processor speed.
2. How much memory (RAM) you have.
3. If you have also done Disk Cleanup and deleted temporary files.
4. How many other users are logged on while you are doing the Fast User
Switching.

OK, the simplest way to find out about your computer is to go to the
System applet in Control Panel. Look on the General tab and you will
see your processor and how much RAM you have. Post back with that
information. Also, were you ever able to switch users successfully? If
yes, what changed?

i have a 2.8ghz pentium 4 processor and 512 mb of ram and i was able to log
on with other users for about a year until this last week when i click on my
account and type in my password i starts like it is going to log on but it
just stops. where it would usually say loading user preferences it is just
blank

I'm sorry Jay, but it still isn't clear to me if you are using Fast User
Switching or not. If you are, the scenario goes like this:
1. You start the computer and log on. You get into your account just
fine.
2. User2 comes along and wants to do some work. You do *not* log off but
instead choose "Switch User". Then User2 normally would be able to get
her desktop and do work.
If I interpret your posts correctly, you are doing the above and not
able to Switch Users. Your Event Viewer logs may be full. Here is a
link to a very good article explaining the situation with a solution:

i'm sorry that i have been so unclear btu i am using fast switching and i
have xp home edition not pro. you are exactly right about what is happening
to me. i read the article but it didnt really help me at all. every time i
try to access the user accounts i get this message "automation server can't
create oblect," this may be what is wrong but i am not sure

Then you need to try and clear the Event Viewer logs.
Start>Run> eventvwr [enter]
You will see three entries: Application, Security, and System. Highlight
each one of them (separately), and then go to Action on the Toolbar and
choose "Clear All Events". You can make the changes to what is being
logged per the link I gave you by choosing Properties from the same
Action button on the Toolbar for each of the three items.
