Last night I left my laptop on and went to the bathroom and when I came back, all my programs were shutting down. Then my laptop started to shut down, and it said "Saving Changes" as it came to the shutting off screen. So I turned my laptop off by pressing and holding the power button. So I thought it would be back to normal when I just turn it back on. I was wrong. When I turned the laptop back on, it started to boot up regularly, then after the boot-up screen, it just went to a black/dark blue screen and doesn't do anything else. I can shut it off, but the same thing happens when I boot it up again. I can still press F2 or whatever and go into the System screen or whatever it's called, but that's all.
Well you Laptop probably shut itself down due to the power regulation features and it looks like something got borked in the process.
Try booting into safemode and see if that fixes stuff on it's own. Otherwise you might need to poke around in safemode and clean out some offending app/driver that's not loading properly.

Also could have overheated and shut itself off. When that happens and you try to reboot you end up with a black screen and the fans running and it will sometimes shut itself off. Try cleaning the vents and if its real hot to the touch look into getting a chill mat.
Hi, if you cannot get passed the boot screen, then it is most likely due to a hardware problem. I've been through this situation before. I had to send the unit in to get it fixed/replaced =P. What kind of laptop is it?
why don't you try reimaging it, assuming you got nothin to backup. if you have a big brand notebook usually they come with reimage disks. it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem as usually the BIOS settings on notebooks are set to halt on most errors. you may have just trashed windows. try it, what've you got to lose, if your warranty has expired.
