i have an old IBM thinkpad a22m laptop that someone gave me and it has a P3 800mhz CPU with 64MB of ram. i found a good deal on some cheap memory for it but i am also looking into upgrading the CPU on this. the documentation on the lenovo website said some models came with a 1GHZ p3 chip but am wondering if it is possible you think the current fan assembly for the 800 can be used for a 1gHz CPU since it is only a 200mHz speed increase?
That's a tough question to answer. It really depends on the heat pipe assembly in use. If it's the same one as they would use on a 1GHz model then by all means go for it. On the other hand if they are 2 different models then you might be out of luck as you will simply not be able to cool the 1GHz chip. Take a deeper look at the SKU's and see what comes up.
