i recently did a system scan on crucial.com on my hp dv6358 special edition. anyways.. I already knew that i had a core 2 duo T5300 @ 1.73 ghz with 2 gb of ram running on windows vista home premium. the info i gathered up about my processor from other online sources said that the FSB of the cpu is 533 mhz which would mean that my ram would have to be 533 or slower..right?
Well, if that is correct then what i have for ram doesn't make sense since you can not have faster ram speed with a slower fsb.(like in my case with 667 mhz ram and 533 fsb). i got from crucial.com that i have 2 1 gb sticks of ddr pc2 5300 ram which i believe is 667 mhz....BUT my fsb of my processor is only 533 mhz...what is wrong here or am i wrong??? Also, on my hp box it lists the specs of the pc and says that it has DDR2 ram...?? im confused.
I also checked my other pcs and they were all correct with the ram types since i remember what i installed.
PC2 is the same as DDR2, just a different name. Yes PC2-5300 is DDR2-667 (667 mhz). You can Have faster RAM than your FSB, but it gets clocked down to the next fastest RAM. There is nothing wrong with running the RAM that came with the system so don't worry about it. As a plus, if you upgrade your CPU you will have fast RAM to go with the faster CPU.
