I'm a trucker and I want a good laptop for general use and gaming. I want to play Everquest & Quake 4 type games. I called dell and got a quote on a I1520. Intel
core 2 Duo T7500 2.2G 800mhz, 4m L2 cache, 2GB DDR2 667mhz 2 Dimm, 256mb Nvidia G Force 8600m GT, 160G HD, Internal Wireless card. $1450 with corporate discount. Will this work or is there a better way to go?

I think for the money you are getting an excellent system. Th 8600mGT isn't the best card, but it will handle all current games and most games in the future (to an extent). If you don't mind going with a slightly less known company look at either if these:

Force 3680:http://www.xoticpc.com/product_inf [...] ts_id=1986 This one actually comes with the desktop Core2 instead of the ones created for laptops which might give you a little more horsepower, but you will sacrifice on heat and battery life.

NP2090:http://www.xoticpc.com/product_inf [...] ts_id=1876 Same basic thing as the Dell but the 8600mGT has more memory on this one. Same basic price too.

If you prefer sticking with a name brand, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the one you spec'd out. Just throwing in a few other options. I personally have not dealt with XoticPC so I cannot vouch for them either positively or negatively. I bought mine from sagernotebook.com and am on the fence about recommending them.

The thing to watch out for on those, usually the more memory (512MB) is the slower GDDR2, so be sure you're not trading 256MB GDDR3 for 512MB GDDR2.

^True. Xotic doesn't specify so it would be a good thing to ask first.

@Killz: The Dell he posted is much better for the money. The 8600mGT is better than the 7600 for gaming (which he said he wanted to do). The Turion in thatEverex is MUCH slower than the T7500 and the Dell has a larger and potentially faster (depends on which he chose) hard
drive than the Everex.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6834220307 might be worth looking at. Latest Core 2 Duo process, latest ATI video card, (tho I havnt seen benchmarks for it yet, and I'm not so sure 1024 video memory is so good with vista 32 bit) and 4 gig of ram, should keep you playing for quite a while.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6834220272 should be another good choice. Latest core 2 duo process, and latest process video card. ASUS also has a 1 year spills/drops warranty, and 2 years parts and labor. Those may come in handy with job hazzards.
