I've recently been looking to replace my Inspiron 5100. It has held up decently well over the past 5ish years, but the 8-9lb load is getting to be too much of a pain.

I do not plan on using the new laptop for gaming, but primarily for schoolwork, research, and possibly a small amount of coding. I occasionally threw a Linux distro on the Inspiron and dual booted, just to play around, so decent compatibility there would be a plus.

As for hardware requirements, I'd prefer something ~3-4 lbs. With respect to price range, I'd like to stick to around $1,000, with $1,500 being the absolute maximum I'd like to spend.

Any recommendations would be appreciated, but if there is additional information that might help, please let me know.
