Forum Old Man/Woman's Club : Other ISP's - Any to avoid?

Word :    Username :

This is probably not the right forum to ask something of this nature, but I wasn't sure where else to do it, so I apologize up front. Anyway, my local ISP has sold to one of the national companies, EarthLink, if I'm not mistaken; however, I'm trying to find out if there are any of these big ISPs I should steer clear of?

Here's the ones I've been considering: Earthlink, Netzero, PeoplePC, Mailaka & Juno. Have you heard bad reports about any of these or problems with embedded adware, spyware, etc. in their software?

Thanks again for your help and again I apologize if I posted this in the wrong forum.

Have a good day all :)

Never mind the ISP your on its certain IP's you want to avoid and ports like 443, 137,138,139 and a host of others.

Any IP from Germany if you online game is a good IP to ban the 0.0.0.0. - 0.0.255.255 range out of.

Same goes for Belgium, China and the land down under Oztralia (Australia)

Certain IP numbers from Florida especially Fort Lauderdale are not to be trusted and almost any IP out of California is a good one to ban.

Any IP out of San Francisco is definitely a good idea to ban the range on especially if it's off the attbi.com network.

Of course this is all a myth and no one has to believe it just check your fire wall logs if you want proof. smirk....

<b>A</b>nother <b>O</b>nline <b>L</b>oser.

AOL's automatic updates knackered <i>their own</i> software on a friends' dad's PC. I managed to get it working by using an older version, but it immediately started updating itself again, so how long that'll last I don't know...

I think I convinced him to switch to <i>anyone</i> apart from them.

My first switch was to netzero which was pretty damn good back when it was free. Don't know now.

Then I just flipped through the phonebook and got one for $5 or $8 a month. That one rocked.

Point being is that compared to AOL anything is better.

Agree with avoid AOL
I have used NetZero when they were free, they had ad banners that sucked, and access was sloowwww.

Broadband is the only way to surf.

There was a hack to get rid of the banners. It was pretty good without them.

Hmm...is the hack still available for the free Netzero? Btw, broadband isn't available in my area, my only choices are dial-up and satellite.

My uncle has their broadband package (despite my warning him not to do so) and they suck. He was getting random popups, spyware, the works, and their dumbass helpdesk advised him to take it to a repair shop (they even found him one locally and advised him how much it would cost. Very dubious). After a quick blast with Ad Aware, Spybot 1.3 and SpywareBlaster, surprise surprise it's gone. As a little test, I took SpywareBlaster off, logged onto their homepage and watched the updates come down.

Without visiting any other sites and killing the net connection, I had another quick butchers with Spybot. Guess what, more spyware. From their own focking website! Had to be.

He's currently in talks to terminate the contract and go with someone halfway decent.

Hahaha! Maaaaan, I mentioned AOL first as a joke, figuring anybody here would know enough to avoid it (except SoD, of course). I never expected to see a serious discussion about it. Just figured you guys would tell me, "Yeah, no shite, mofo!"

Bastards.

I hate spyware, and your own ISP giving you loads of the crap just takes the piss.

I would say they should sue for something, but no doubt it's covered in some of the small print somewhere...

I've asked him to send my a copy of the terms and conditions, but like you say, it's bound to be covered. Fockers.

I dread to think what's in some of the small print I've happily agreed to in the past  ...

Who always reads it anyway? It just sends you to sleep if you try.
