digital connection troubles

I have been having some problems getting my Theta Carmen to get a digital
connection to my Mark Levinson No 40 when playing CDs.. Not in the sense
that I can get a wire to hook up, but that there is a CD playing but the ML
won't lock onto the signal. this is only happening on 44.1k CD material.
Any DVDs in DD, DTS or PCM 48k lock on fine.

Some other interesting issues: The Theta won't lock on to either my Sonic
Frontiers UltraJitterbug, AA DDE 2.0 or to my Tascam DA20 DAT.

However, it will lock onto both my Zefiro ZA2 digital I/O card and my
Digigram VXpocket digital I/O card for my PC and laptop respectively. Both
indicate a good healthy 44.1k sampling rate detected.

I've had this unit to Theta 3 times. the last time they said it played for 2
weeks straight without a problem (assuming it was connected to a Theta DAC).

Can anyone offer any suggesstions as to what may be amiss?

Interesting side note. When i use the Zefiro ZA2 digital card between the
player and my ML unit, it does lock onto the signal. I don't know what the
card is doing to the signal to enable the ML to lock on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. i am at wits end here.
