DV6308nr Powers on and then off

A family friend of ours handed over his old dv6308 because he was having trouble with it. We attempted to figure out what was wrong with it and never really succeeded. Apparently it has become ours and I am sick of the paper weight, so I wanted to get it fixed or pitch it.

Problem is as follows: When I power it on all of the lights kick on, but nothing comes up on the screen... after a short period of time, the computer shuts off and turns back on again, and just keeps cycling like that.

All the fans whir and everything... just nothing on the screen and it wont stay on.
