Check your input method & language under the Control Panel's
Regional and Language Options. It sounds like you're using the wrong
version of English for your location.

You are using a US keyboard layout with a UK keyboard (or vice
versa). Fix it in Control Panel | Regional and Language Options |
Language | Details.

You are using the american language instead of english. Got to control panel
and click on the Regional and language options icon. When the regional and
language options window opens click the language tab. Now click the
'Details' button. Another window will open. Take a look in the dialogue box
under the heading Default input language. It will probably say 'English
(united states) US. Click the arrow to the right of this option and see if
English (united kingdon) - united kingdom is available. if it is selct this
and then click the Apply button. If only the American english is available
you will need to add the UK one. To do this Click the Add button. The add
input language window will open. Clickt he arrow to the right of the
dialogue box under Input Language and choose English (United Kingdom). Click
OK. This will take you back to the text services and input language window.
Click the arrow on the right of the dialogue box under 'default input
language' and now select Englis (united kingdom). Now press Apply followsed
by OK. In the next window click OK to exit. You may need to reboot yuor
machine for the new keyboard language to take effect.
