Hello,
We have recently moved into a new home, which we had pre-wired for a
surround sound system. We also had speakers on the lanai pre wired and
installed.
Well the home theater system is in and it sounds great. I am having
trouble with the lanai speakers. The speaker cable for the lanai had
four wires in it (red, black, white, and green). There are two
speakers on the lanai, so I figured that red and black were the +/- for
one speaker and white and green were the +/- for the other. So I put
the red wire in the red terminal and the black into the black terminal
for the right side of the Front B speakers, then I put the green wire
into the red terminal and the white wire into the black terminal for
the left side of Front B.
I am not getting any sound out of the lanai speakers when I switch to
Front B. There is no volume control on the wall, which is one
suggestion I received from a friend. The AV Receiver is a Yamaha,
HTR5830.
Am I missing anything obvious? Is there some trick to actually
activating the terminals for Front B on the receiver? I have been
through the manual and don't see anything? Anyone have any ideas, or
suggestions, or references? I cannot find a Yamaha website for this
product.

Kathryn,
Sorry I can't help you with your question. But I must thank you for
helping me. You have confirmed the fact that I am a poor person. I
didn't even know what a "lanai" was until I looked it up.
Where I come from, we can only afford a porch or veranda. : )

My guess is that you may not have guessed correctly which wires went
to which speaker. Try other combinations of wires by leaving the black
wire connected and trying the the white or the green with it.
