I am looking for a multi-channel volume control, and I was wondering if
anyone knows where I can get the following:

High quality active analog stage using discrete components, at least 12
channels, 16 would be better. Balanced inputs and outputs (XLR), master
volume control and remote.

If anyone knows of such a beast, I would appreciate any info. Thanks!

Unless you want a mechanically coupled motor driven potentiometer, better a
bunch of them, there is no solution with discrete components. I have built a
similar VCA array, but only single ended with the SSM2164 quad variable
transimpedance amp, which has a dB-linear control input(+24dB...-120dB).
There are other solutions with slightly higher quality but at multiple cost
and with the need of incorporating a digital controller chip. If you are
interested, please drop me a mail
