There are a bunch of them falling for the old goat trick that Wild Tangent
uses over in CSIPGR. I find it hard to believe at this late date that
sophisticated RPGers would install a game on their computer after knowing
that it will also install spyware but I guess the bait was just too strong
to some of the weak-willed simpletons. Guess that's why they're over
there and not here. It takes brainy RPGers to be Ultima fans. :)

I have to admit I have been tempted - due to the reviews. But my
suspicious nature always got the upper hand.

- Spyware? No, that was before.
- There is some spyware-resembling-but-really-isn't-sw in there, but you
only have to do this and this to remove it.

I may be unfair (there are probably far worse offenders out there), but I
get the too-good-to-be-true feeling. Pity, it seems to be a good game - if
you're after some mindless dungeon crawling, and sometimes I am just that.

Fate of course.
Not interested. I have enough trouble with just WIndows screwing up on its
own and a slow 56k dialup connection without adding that thing. Maybe it's
removable, but why go to the trouble when I can just not install the game
in the first place?

What is the source of your information? What spyware does it install? I've
been doing regular scans and nothing ever complained about Fate. Could you
give some specifics?

Damn OE multiple posted on me. I only use it because it allows for
multiple servers. For now I switched to Agent.

AFAIK, wild tangent web driver just stores information locally about
your computer specs. I've got Fate blocked for outgoing communication
with a softwaqre firewall. Does that still leave me vulnerable?

It would seem that its classification as spyware is a bit grey,
because while Spybot classifies it as spyware, spy sweeper does not.

Any opinions?

thanks,

Fight4Liberty
