Last fall I bought a new computer in wich I have an LG DVD-Rom player and a Plextor PX-708A DVD burner wich, by the way, is a great burner.

My problem is, whenever I want to play a music CD i.e. any commercial CD or a DVD-Audio disc, I get loud digital artifact noises along with the music...even on music CDs I recorded on that same burner. I don't have that problem when I read a movie or a show on DVD though.
I don't have this problem with my LG player wich will read any disks just fine.

I was told that it could be a compatibility problem between the reader part of my Plextor burner and my sound card (Creative SB Audigy 2 Platinum EX) because there is no audio cable that goes from the Plextor to this sound card...the sound is actually transfered through the IDE cable??...does it make sense?

Any ideas anyone?

My system is:

Antec 1080 AMG tour with True 430 watts
Asus P4P800 DX
Pentium 4 2,8Gb @ 800Mhz
1Gb DDR PC-4oo dual Kingston
2 x 120Gb Seagate Barracuda SATA, 8Mb cache (one used for Ghost)
DVD-ROM LG 16x48
DVD burner PLEXTOR PX-708A
Graphics - ATI Radeon 9800 PRO 128Mg (updated drivers)
Sound - Creative SB Audigy 2 Platinum EX (updated drivers)
2 x 19" monitors Samsung 957MB
Windows XP PRO (all updated)

I have the Plextor 708A and I can play music fine. I DON'T have an audio cable going from the burner to the sound card either. I have an N-Force2 and I am running the onboard Nvidia Soundstorm with no problems. Try updating the sound card drivers again.
