i have a audigy 2. it is only 6.1 capable. on a few review web sites for the inspire t7700(speakers) made by creative it says minimum requirements-5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 capable sound card.- now these speakers are 7.1 and my sound card is 6.1. what happens when i hook these up together? do the two back speakers out put the same sound? how will this work. i have already ordered these speakers b/c of the reviews on them...

Nothing to worry about. When upsampling 5.1 to 6.1 or 6.1 to 7.1 there are usually 3 options.

1) Ignore the extra speakers.
2) Simulate the missing channels by mixing the sources availible.
3) Let he decoder decide.

For 3D Games 5.1 to 6.1 has a slight benefit (locate sound sources more acurately). 7.1 to 6.1 has even less of an effect.

Movies. Most are 5.1 anyway (Dolby Digital/DTS) a few are 6.1 (Dolby Digital EX/DTS ES). In a theater where the gaps between speakers are relatively huge, extra channels help. In a small room even 6.1 is overkill.

So why did I just buy a 7.1 Reciever.
1) For the same reason people perfer optical SPDIF over coax SPDIF. Either way its a perfect digital transmittion, but fiber optics and laser are cooler and more fun to work with.
2) Cards that support 7.1 are likely to be newer and have better features than the previous 6.1 generation.
