Which of these 2 Corsair DDR modules should I get?

I have an Asus A7V8X motherboard that I am going to upgrade. I currently have 1 stick of Mushkin Basic PC2100 memory in it, so I had to lower the FSB to 133mhz. I am going to get a faster memory module so that I can increase the FSB to 166 so that it runs at the normal FSB of my Athlon XP 2500+ Barton.

I decided to buy Corsair memory, but which of these two modules should I get?:

- CMX512-2700LLPT (2-3-2-5)
or
- CMX512-2700C2PT (2-3-3-6)

Apparently they have different timings, 2-3-2-5 VS. 2-3-3-6, but I would like to know if my motherboard will support the module with the lower timings (2-3-2-5)? Otherwise I will just buy the one with higher timings (2-3-3-6) and save a couple of bucks.

Thanks in advance.

OK. Thanks.

hey Wusy, since I cant overclock the FSB to 200 (anything above 166 on my motherboard increases the AGP and PCI busses), I was thinking of increasing the multiplier. How much of a performance difference would there be when you compare for example, 200Mhz x 11FSB VS. 166Mhz x 13.5 to get Athlon XP 3200+ speeds? Does the processor have to be one of the good versions (AXQEA,etc.) when only the multiplier is increased? Also, is a Termaltake Volcano 11+ Xaser Edition HSF good to overclock to Athlon XP 3200+ speeds? I currently get temps of CPU: ~42C idle, Mobo ~30C at 133FSBx14 (1867Mhz).

I think I do have an unlocked 2500+ Athlon XP, since I am currently running it at 14x133, while the normal multiplier for the processor is 11x. Or am I able to change the multiplier because of the motherboard? Does the A7V8X unlock the multipliers?

I have another question about memory. I saw 2 sticks of 512MB Corsair Value PC3200 memory for $150USD. Would running that memory, even though it has higher timings at PC3200 than the XMS memory, let me set low timings in PC2700 mode? Or is that memory too cheap to run at low timings? If it allows me to have low timings at PC2700, then I would rather get 1GB of this memory and underclock it than to get only 512MB. 1 stick of the 512MB XMS memory is around $110, while i can get the 1GB of Corsair value memory for only $40-50 more.

I dont plan on overclocking the FSB. I will run the FSB at 166 and the increase the multiplier to 13x or so to get 3200+ Speeds. If I increase my FSB any higher than 166, it will also overclock my PCI and AGP bus.

I was planning on getting DDR333 memory with low latency(the one I mentioned above and the one you recommended), since I see no point in getting DDR400 since I can not overclock my FSB higher than 166. Also, I can run the memory at DDR400 speeds, while keeping the FSB at 166, but there is no performance increase and sometimes even performance degradation as seen in some THG articles. Also, if I run my ram at DDR400 speeds, I will be limited to only 1 stick of RAM, but if I run the RAM at DDR333, i can use 2 sticks (4banks) of ram.

Damn this limited KT400 chipset!!! Oh well, I dont plan on upgrading anytime soon (after I upgrade the RAM of course). I'll use this computer for a couple of years and then buy an AMD Athlon64 4000+, with a 400Mhz FSB and DDR800, computer when it comes out. LOL :)

4000+ should be out this year, just with a 1000MHz Hypertransport bus, no 1600MHz.
