A Mo'Slo question (usage with Deus Ex)

Attempting to use the Mo'Slo program that came with the Ultima Collection to
slow down the computer game Deus Ex has resulted in no perceptible
difference. In the DOS window it reports starting Deus Ex at (for example)
25.0% speed, but when the game itself begins nothing at all is remotely any
slower.

Any input and/or help appreciated. Thank you.

Since when is Deus Ex a DOS game? Anyhow, I thought there was a patch for
the original Deus Ex to make it work okay with W2K/XP. Don't ask me where
to find it though.

Running the risk of being shot, I have to say that I don't know what Deus Ex
is.

As to suggesting to switch from moslo to dosbox, yes I do.

Ultima Underworlds and possibly Thief aside, arguably the finest first-
person perspective game ever -- and made by the same team as both the
above, more or less, so it's doubly good. It enjoys great plotting,
engrossing gameplay and, for the time, great visuals, as well as now
being available on budget labels for less than $10. Well, maybe not
Canadian dollars. ;)

It's sort of a cross between Half-life and Thief, in a cyberpunk
setting, if you want an approximate description, but that doesn't
really do it justice.

Did you try 0.25%?

If that doesnt change anything, better look for a patch.

*thinks*

After reading the replies, the following question has been formulated: does
Mo'Slo work only with DOS games?

(For the record, there is no problem playing Deus Ex normally; it is slowing
it down to a speed at which all frames shown can be recorded without loss
that is the problem.)

Forgive me but why ?

I've replayed Deus Ex on my 3.4 GHz computer, it runs
exactly as fast as on my P2-400 ?

Unimportant as this may seem, I have a tendency to be very stubborn.

For the LiveJournal account generally used by those within this cranium, I
am attempting to create an icon. Preferably, this icon would consist of an
animated .gif file of the 'Daedalus' picture shown when Daedalus is
communiating with JC via the InfoLink, complete with static and scrolling
bar.

The problem, so far, has been finding a screen recorder or screen capture
program which captures pictures/frames at a high enough rate to result in
the same visual experience. If it takes secondary priority to the game,
then it gets approximately seven pictures; if it takes primary priority, it
takes plenty of pictures, but they're all the same picture.

By slowing down the game, just maybe a decent rate of recording can be
achieved.

It reports running it at 0.2%, and the speed is unchanged.

*goes to search for the manufacturers of Mo'Slo (and maybe also find out

Hmm. Two concerns: could this result in a difference between computer
(clock) time and external time? Also, since the recording program is also
in the same system, wouldn't it be slowed down as well?

Or just lower the priority on the game.

Seems to me some people stacked moslo on itself a few times and got it
to work. There is a newer version http://www.hpaa.com/moslo/

Some forums say this works well also:

Abandon Loader is it's name.

Is there any way to simply save everything that goes to one's monitor,
without destroying the frames-per-second of the thing that's going to one's
monitor in the first place? I also attempted to get at the Infolink
portrait I was interested in by rooting around in the game's files, and
found most of it in a .utx file, but without the static or the scrolling
bar. Any suggestions?

I don't actually know what the two words after the slash refer to.

Also, the main reason for why my attempt did not work appears to be that
Deus Ex is not a DOS game.

In retrospect, it's obvious.

How does one convert an .avi file to a(n animated) .gif file?

If you're writing your own app, I use avifil32.dll to create AVI's but I
assume it also holds methods to read them. I wouldn't recommend tackling the
AVI file format "manually". As for creating the GIF, I'd suggest you look at
the System.Drawing / System.Drawing.Imaging namespaces in .NET.

If you're asking for an existing app, I don't know one so I'll slide back
down in my chair to await responses from more enlightened wyrms.

Hmmm. I can see how to do it manually but I don't know of a program to do
it automatically. I haven't ever needed to do this so I haven't
researched it. There is probably some program.

You'd run an editor like VirtualDub or just a media player like Media
Player Classic and save off individual frames. Then use a program like MS
GIF Animator to stitch them together into an animated GIF.

Thank you.

Starting from a .gif file of 483 kilobytes, how would one bring it down to
below forty kilobytes without [a noticable] loss in quality? Is it
possible?

I think most of the programs that can do animated gifs can optimize the
final result in different ways. You'd probably just need to see what
options are available when saving your file.
