I have always been curious about this, especially with these new high resolution displays on phones and tablets, why for instance is a 2560x1440 monitor so expensive (easily $500+) when a nexus 10 has a screen resolution of 2560 x 1600 on a much smaller screen 10 inch vs 27 inch and is MUCH cheaper? Does it have to do with the quality of the screen and if so could someone elaborate how monitors of the same resolution differ in quality? Also, this might be a separate question or it might be related, but is this have to do with how cameras of the same MP can easily differ in photo quality?

Thanks Guys

Hi there!

You can appreciate the picture quality even more in a larger screen. That also makes the viewing experience worthwhile. This is the reason for the price difference.

You can easily notice the difference in details of the picture if you're watching a high resolution program on a larger screen compared to a 7" tablet.

Of course, you can barely see a 7" sized screen if you're sitting meters away from compared to viewing it on 50", correct?

For example, try walking into an appliance center. They usually show the same programs in different TV screen sizes simultaneously. Try looking at the 32" then go to the 50". You will see what I mean.

For Cameras, the higher the MP the better the resolution and pictures. However this does not apply to all. It also depends on the manufacturer and brand of your camera.

Still, I believe a good picture depends on the taste of the viewer. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" as they say.

A lot of factors can affect the outcome of your pictures. Cameras with the same MP does not necessarily have the same features.

For example, there are cameras that auto adjust the hue / color quality depending on the environment and natural lighting. There are others that do not have this or you have to manually set this up. This is a deal breaker and affects prices of cameras in general.

Screen resolution is normally said to be display size. The display resolution is mostly saw in digital television, computer monitor or display device is the number of distinct pixels in each dimension that can be displayed. It can be ambiguous term especially as the displayed resolution is controlled by different factors in cathode ray tube, Flat panel display which include liquid crystal displays, or projection displays using fixed picture-element arrays.
