Hi

Looking for a laptop to watch DVDs, and nothing much more complicated than that, maybe burn a few cds and surf. Tuner not required.

Novatech seems to be well thought of here in the UK, so do you think the first of these would do me?

Oh, and which OS - bearing in mind I will likely keep this for years.

Thanks

Any of the 3 on this list would be enough for what you want to do: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech [...] pe=nbrange. The middle one is probably the best deal.

If you want longevity, look for a dual core CPU, 2gb of RAM and you should probably stick with Vista if you keep it for a while.

For what's listed as the functions the baest of them all is fine, but for longevity dual core is wise.

Personally I say XP over vista simply because there are more tools for XP and less restrictions. It will be supported for another 2 years min, 3 years likely, so there's no worries really for either.

If you were looking for other functionality then things would be different, but for just the basics and only DVD not HD content, I'd say you're fine with the lowest end, and then the priority upgrade after that would be dual core CPU just to ensure that you remove some chugging when things like anti-virus kick in, etc.
