Media OS?

Sorry if this is in the wrong area.

I have a laptop with W7 and a 2TB external drive which I only use to watch movies and listen to music. On rare occasions I'll copy more media to the drive, but beyond that I have no use for the thing.

So my question is, is there a Media OS of some sort that makes everything as simple as possible. Something simple enough for a 3yo to use would be ideal.

There's Windows XP media center edition, but I don't think you'll want to downgrade just for Windows Media Center, which is in Windows 7. You can give that a go. I use Media Portal for my movies. It's a free open source program. I cannot think of any other programs off the top of my head, but just google "windows media center alternatives," you'll get plenty of options.
