does serial ata support hot swap?

No need for a special controller. SATA supports hotswap natively.

BTW this has been answered <A HREF="http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=94709#94709" target="_new">before</A>. That's one of the reasons these boards have a search feature.
