Run MSCONFIG and see if there are programs you seldom use that are loading in the start up menu, uncheck only the ones you know you don't need running constantly, close the program and it will require you to restart the machine. Check your available memory before and after to see what you've gained, and you'll still be able to use any program you uncheck, it will just take longer to come up. This is not a permanent deal meaning if you uncheck something and it causes you a problem go back in and reenable it.
