Hello all forum members!

I just have a question to ask. I was considering on buying this laptop from a friend.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6834115392

I only want to know if I can replace the processor in it. Was thinking about a C2D...

Any thoughts? Do laptops come with a socket today?

Thanks in advance!

I don't think you can upgrade it, your laptop has the older Intel 940GML chipset and In the Intel datasheet it says 940GML only supports

Processor Support
• Celeron M processor (Intel Core processor based), Celeron M processor ULV
• 533-MHz FSB support only

here's the link

If you are on a tight budget and wan to upgrade it later go something with 945 GM chipset it supports most Cuo 2 Duo available today .

Yes, I agree. You won't fit much more than a Celeron M in there.

Be careful with that. The 945 only support Core2's with the 667 FSB. In other words, the T7200, T7400, and T7600. Those are not cheap to buy since the new 800 FSB ones came out.

Ahh yeah . you have to keep that in mind. But most budget C2D euipped comes with 677 FSB isn't it ???

^I'm not sure with them. The numbering scheme for the lower end ones is so strange that it's confusing IMO. I haven't seen many computer shops sell the lower ones anyway. It's mostly the mainstream ones.

Hey, thanks for all the replies! Such a pity it can't be upgraded, so I decided not to buy it after all.

Again, thanks for the help. Really appreciate it!
