System is eating up a lot of memory

I jsut reinstall winMe. And I have 256 MB of PC2100 in this system, when I check right now. I only have 85MB of memory free. Why is that? This system is networked, does this make it different?

Windows is known to hog up as much memory as it can get. I'd recommend you get a memory manager program.
