17' SAMSUNG 713N TFT LCD vs. 17' SAMSUNG 173P TFT LCD

Hello All,

I was planning to buy a 17' TFT monitor but find myself lost while trying to keep the balance between price and quality. I don't have a large budget and was looking for a monitor that costs around 310$. Unfortunatly prices in Turkey are apparently higher than US or other European countries.


I almost decided to buy 17' SAMSUNG 713N TFT LCD but today I found
SAMSUNG 173P TFT LCD for the same price with 713N.

Normally the price for SAMSUNG 173P was and still is around 470$ in many retailers, while the one I found sells it for 307$ which is a big difference.

But I still have difficulty choosing because each monitor has its advantages and disadvantages.

173P's Attributes

Brightness (Typical): 270 cd/m2
Contrast Ratio (Typical): 700:1
Response time : 25ms

713N's Attributes
----------------------------
Interface: Analog D-SUB
Brightness (Typical): 300 cd/m2
Contrast Ratio (Typical): 600:1
Response time : 8ms

Here it appears that 173P is better in Contrast has DVI input. But negatively it has a response time of 25 ms.

On the other hand, advantages of 713N appear to be response time of 8ms and Brightness.

- But which featchers overweigh the others?
- Will 173P cause ghosting while playing games?
- How can a monitor with 25ms reponse time be more expensive (in all the other shops) compared to 8ms one?
- What does DVI bring besides auto config according to signal?

As you see I'm very confused and desperetly need help on which one is better.

Additionally LG 17 L1750SQ LCD MONITOR 8 MS was also in my short list.
What can you say about this monitor. Which brand is better Samsung or LG.

I will be very gratefull if you can help me on this. All the reccomendations are appreciated.
