Hello,

a Notebook XP/SP2 with WLAN/DHCP/WEP has the problem after startup that
always the network status is on "no connection".
The cause is a not assigned IP, mask stands on 255.255.0.0.
After useing "repair" the IP is given, mask on 255.255.255.0.
Strangely: Although the repair was successful, always the message comes
that the repair failed.

This problem exists with both entrances of the Notebooks: Wlan-router from
D-link and with a DSL sinus 1054.
Why it works not on the first time?

(Setting "Node Type" in
[HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters] to
"0x1" don´t slove it.)

Sincerly,
Rigoletto

Perhaps try this page...
http://www.michna.com/kb/WxNetwork.htm

Quote:

If the computer cannot obtain an IP address from a DHCP (Dynamic Host
Configuration Protocol) server, like a router using NAT (Network Address
Translation), Windows will automatically assign an APIPA (Automatic Private
IP Address) in the range:
Class B: 169.254.0.0 - 169.254.255.255
(Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0)

One likely cause is Winsock corruption, caused by adware or a virus. Please
read the following chapter.....

Is it possible there is a second DHP server somewhere on the network?
Perhaps in a printer server?
