How do you go about loading the SATA Raid drivers on a brand new DELL computer [No Floppy Drive], with a WinXP OP/SYS, when the XPs F6 feature is looking for the A:\> drive to receive the files from, but the DELL BIOS loads the Internal Floppy Drive [I've temporarily added] as the B:\> Drive.
The DELL comes with a CD that you boot with and on the CD is a SATA Floppy Disk Creator. ROFLMAO, and the machine has no floppy drive, but comes with a Floppy disk creator!, Go figure that one guys! LOL
Does DELL load the SATA files from an external USB Floppy Drive, and it shows up as the A:\> Drive?
There is a Floppy Ribbon cable inside the machine hooked to the M/B and hanging loose, I'm assuming DELL temporarily hooks in an Internal Floppy Drive to load, the SATA files, but if thats the case, why does the Internal Floppy show up automatically as the B:\> Drive. WinXP only accepts the damn SATA files through the A:\> drive???
DELLs CMOS Setup, is weird as hell, thats for sure!
I need some fast serious responses here not opinions, anyone familiar with reloading the SATA Drivers, in the XP OP/SYS on a DELL computer without a Floppy Drive, Help!
At this point:
#1 Either I'm missing something and disabling the USB in the CMOS may cause the Internal Floppy Drive letter to change or, theres some DELL secret to getting an Internal Floppy to show up as the A:\> Drive?
#2 Or does an External USB Floppy Drive, automatically shows up as the A:\> Drive????
I don't have an External USB Floppy Drive, but if thats what it takes to resolve this issue, I'll pick one up today, I just need to know if thats the solution for sure before I go buy one?
This is a friends computer, a brand new DELL about a month old that she allowed her two sons to use unsupervised, this computer is completely infested with porno, pop-ups, pop-unders, Browser Hijackers, Dialers, I have never seen a machine this screwed up, ADaware and Spybot could not solve this problem, System Restore in XP itself, couldn't even Restore, and since she hasn't got anything worth keeping on the machine yet, a Reinstall is about the only option left!
So much for not needing a Floppy Drive, someone forgot to tell Microsoft about that little situation, there wouldn't be a problem if during the boot process WinXP would allow you to select a different drive to install the SATA drivers from other than the A:\> Drive.
No, BS! I need some serious advice ASAP!!! Thanks Ryan

That wasn't the solution, but the problem is solved! I do really appreciate your attempt to help me, since it seemed everyone else ran for cover, so if you ever run into this issue PM me, and I'll tell you exactly how to resolve it, but as far as posting the solution in this thread. I don't think so!
Dell support sucks, they would much rather have an individual ship the computer back to them so they can use up the warranty time, this incident itself, nailed it as far as I'm concerned, I'll never buy a DELL anything, and I'm soon going to have to buy myself a Laptop!
Take your toys and go home, not going your way...ehh...
This is the most information liberal site, and if someone had your answer would have posted it.
If we all had your BAD attitude, this site would be non-existant.
Take what you can, give nothing unless you feel you get yours. What a great policy.

If I'm really angry, it would be at DELL, not anyone here at this THGF, I've just had enough of thinking about this crap for today, but trust me I won't forget the solution after all the time it took to resolve it! OK!
I've never refused to help anyone here thats asked for it, if I could help them, If I have refused to help anyone here, with their computer troubles nows your time to bash Ole Ryan! Go for it!
I meant raid set up for sata drives.
It's been a real shitty weekend. Too much stress with organizing closing on my new house. My landlord for my apartment withdrew rent for October. I already paid rent for October. Who knows how long it's going to take to get my money back. I'm beginning to understand why a person can go 'postal'.
Yeah you're at the point it seems everyone has their hand in your pocket, try to keep your wits about you, its easy to lose it under those circumstances. The good thing is its almost over with.
So how do you install SATA drivers without a floppy drive?
On the DELL it had to be done with an External USB Floppy Drive, the BIOS recognizes the USB Floppy drive default as the A:\> drive and loads drivers to support it, and everything from that point is normal.
You could have slipstreamed the driver into the XP CD...

Well if it had been my machine and I knew I was going to be reinstalling possibly again that would have been the way to go for sure, as a matter of fact I could still do that just in case her kids screw it up again.
