I did not know where else to post this.
Im new to the overclocking/tweaking thing. Ive been told that if you buy a computer from these custom places ( Voodoo/Ailenware etc..) that the reason they are good for gaming is that the computer has been tweaked for games. What are they doing to tweak the os/comp?
I just installed XP on my comp. I have tweaked the os 2 ways. 1. tweakxp program and the 2nd is a xp server guide that tells you what servers you do not need to have running. My friend has less framerate lag then I do on the game we play and his computer is slower then mine.
My specs.
P4 2.0 gig
384 megs PC800 mem
gforce 3 Ti 500 64 meg
40 gig 7200 rpm HD
soundblaster x-gamer 5.1 sound card
XP pro OS
cable ISP
His specs.
Athlon 1700xp
512 DDR mem
gforce 2 64 meg PCI.
sounblaster x-gamer 5.1 sound card
cable ISP
windows 98 se OS
what else can I do to my system to speed it up without overclocking it? and why do I have slower framerates?

Disable Hibernate and System Restore, because it takes some space and power.
Have your paging file changed to a set amount. I'd recommend 500MB. If you have only one partition, download VoptXP and optimize it to the front of the hard drive.
If there's more, I'll post back.

P.S. Maybe my site can help(?)
