XP 5 min. Boot delay?

Lately, everytime I reboot my PC, it sits with a blank screen for 5 min. before the XP loading screen appears. My HD light is on so I guess there is HD activity during that time. Anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?

Sort of a "magic" fix for me, but I was in this situation too. I'm not sure what even compelled me to do it. I just changed the jumpers of the hard drives from Master/Slave to Cable Select. Then, everything was smooth again.

It's worth a shot...

it did start happening after i installed a slave HD... where can i go to find out how to set the jumper settings for my drive?

On newer models, they've been usually on top of the hard drive itself. Either that, or you can go to the manufacturer's website. You'd probably want to do the latter, because it wouldn't take unscrewing and removing your hard drive to see the top.
