One of my laptop users started complaining about this last week and I haven't
found a fix yet.

Windows Explorer displays every drive letter possible all the time. If the
letter is mapped to a physical or network drive, the symbol is normal and
works fine. If the letter doesn't map to anything the icon is labeled
"Disconnected Network Drive".

If I log on as administrator, it doesn't happen. If I then log into his
profile, it is normal for about 2 hours and then this occurs spontaneously.
It will stay like this if he reboots and log in as himself.

My latest attempts to fix this was to disable simple file sharing and
"automatically search for network folders and printers". No change in
behavior was noted.

I tried using the NET USE command to see if it showed any strange drives,
but it only showed the actual drive letters in use, not the phantoms.
