the difference between them is 200MHz in processor, 1GB of ram, and a faster, larger hard disk on the second.
but how much will the battery be effected by that upgrade? i know the g1s-a1 (the first one) only gets maybe 2.5hrs
anybody help me estimate it? my newest notebook runs an athlon 2100. Idunno if the proc or the ram will make too much of a power difference, but the hard disk...how much more will it drain out of that battery?
I think the second is the better choice by far. The CPU won't effect the battery life much because speed step will be enable when on battery power. The HDD will have a little more of an impact, but it won't be too much. I would venture to say that you'll still get 2+ hours.
I've got essentially the same model as him (slightly faster CPU, and overclocked graphics card) and I can say that the battery life is maybe...one and a half hours. Maybe a bit more, but that's what I usually get. AC adaptors are wonderful things.
My sager uses the stock 8-cell lithium ion battery. My usual time is around 1:30-1:45 (I usually plug it back in when the battery gets to 10%). I've gotten as much as 2 hours though. Not terrible for a smallish battery and the hardware it packs.
