I am looking for a gaming laptop, I play mainly MMOs, so connectivity is essential, and some FPS. but I will be travelling over the world for a while so need to have a degree of portability.
I am looking for....
Windows Vista
Dedicated Graphics (DX10 comaptible?)
2 MEG on board minimum
120 Gig HDD (not sure on speed)
15.4" Wide maximum size.
BUdget £1500 sterling
I am sure that there are other things I need but would really appreciate your advice.
Was thinking of going with the below as it is 350 pounds cheaper than the rock. The Rock has 1gb of ram less, but 256M more on the graphics card, a 7200rpm HDD and Vista Ultimate. Would the performance difference warrant the extra spend?
Apologies for the questions but want to ensure that the best bang for buck is got.
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7700 (2.40 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 4 MB L2-cache)
Genuine Windows Vista® Ultimate (32Bit) - English
Base Warranty - 1 Year XPS Premium Hardware Support (incl. Gaming and On-Site Support)
2.0 mega pixel Camera & Midnight Blue for CCFL Display
15.4" Widescreen™ WXGA (1280x800) TFT Display (220nits) with TrueLife™
Biometric Fingerprint Reader with BLACK accent
4096MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048]
250GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 8600M GT with 256MB dedicated graphic memory
Fixed 8x DVD+/-RW Slim Slot Load drive, including SW
Primary 9-cell Lithium-Ion Battery (85 WHr)
^I think I would go with that. You'll notice some speed decrease from the hard drive in gaming only when you load maps and levels. The 256mb version of the 8600mGT uses GDDR3 memory which is faster than the GDDR2 on the 512mb one so you may actually get better performance. The XPS should do what you want with no problems.
Have purchased from Dell, but with a bit of negotiation, they reduced the price by £50 and chucked in a blue tooth mous and tv tuner thingy.
Final Spec below
