Thanks for the recommendation(in an earlier note) to use DVD Shrink (freeware) to make backups of movies. I just installed my first DVD burner and used DVD Shrink + Nero 6 to make a copy the Matrix and it worked perfect. On first use DVD shrink looks like excellent freeware.

What does the deep analysis option do? Does it improve the quality measurably?

Also, I had to upgrade from nero 5.5 OEM that came with my old TDK CD-RW sinvce I bought a Liteon DVD/RW. Is nero 6.0 is the best burning software out there? I'm planning on making the demo nero 6 permanent with the upgrade option on the nero website - is this a good choice?

Thanks?

Don't know about Nero, but DVD Shrink does seem like an excellent prog. I stumbled across it the other week and so far have found it to be fantastic.

yeah im a big fan of X copy Platinum...but there are certain movies that won't burn in there that DVD SHRINK will do, quality wise there the same, Xcopy is quicker imo and it's like 1 button process, shrink you have to do like 2 steps and [-peep-] just to RIP the dvd.... Shrink has no gay SCreen on the front of each movie, that doesn't even bother me i click the menu button adn that disapears in seconds, either one are both 2 great applications for backing up movies

I wouldn't pay for Nero. Your LiteOn drive should have came with a great burning program called RecordNow. Might have to do some digging on the Sonic CD that came with your burner, but it should be there.
It's a rock solid program (originally made by Veritas) and you won't have to pay any extra.

Nero 6.0 is the best burning software out there. Period. Go for it.

Timber and Spit, have you ever actually used RecordNow? If so, what complaints do you have about it?...

I used to use Nero for CD's but with my new LiteOn 411S DVD burner I switched to RecordNow and have had zero problems so far.

Nero is more straightforward to make DVD video disks. I did eventually figure out that with the Sonic RecordNow software that came with the Liteon drive I can make a "data" disk with the right folders and it burns a DVD video disk just fine. So for free the RecordNow is acceptable and workable, but Nero is what I would buy if purchasing.
I just compiled a (rather late) Christmas DVD. I can see that I can spend quite some time making DVD videos with titles, menus, transitions....

Video processing sure does put the CPU to the test! Would increasing RAM larger than 512 make much difference in time to process a new video or rip an existing, or is this mostly CPU speed limited with 512M RAM (I have a XP 2100+ system)?

I might buy Nero over RecordNow if I was purchasing, but RecordNow comes free with the drive :)

No. Getting more RAM will then that will not produce much faster times.
It's more CPU intensive then RAM intensive.
