My brand new LCD has got a dead pixel (grey, sort of). But apparently manufacteres say that a dead pixel for warranty effects has to be black or white.

Could anyone clarify this?.

That depends on manufacturer. I bought my first desktop LCD a Dell 2405FPW and thankfully it is perfect.
Several other posters have gotten them with similar results...
with one returning it for a dead pixel and they did...
Contact mftr and inquire, and report back results.
