I have a HP Pavilion ZD8000 Part# PF456AV.
I'd like to change out and convert my existing 80GB ata-6 hard drive to a 250GB SATA drive.
Can this be done?
Do they make a converter card for laptops?
I know they do for PCs.
I need the space really bad. I don't want to add an external drive.

Thanks for any help.

Bump

I need to know if I can convert my ATA-6 or IDE slot to a SATA slot.
Sorry if my original post was unclear.

There are convertors for ATA to SATA, but I don't think they'll fit inside a laptop, sorry. There are ATA drives up to I think 160 Gb capacity though...

Thanks for the reply. I've checked everywhere on the internet and I've come up with the same conclusion.
I need a 7200RPM drive for my audio software. I would like to get a bigger drive but they only come in SATA whereas I have an ATA-6 or IDE.
Sonar 7 Producer recomends a 7200RPM Drive. 5400 is too slow.
I have a 915 chipset but Sonar runs good in it.
915 chipsets aren't supposed to be good for audio but my HP is just fine.

If anyone finds a ATA-6 (IDE) 160GB 7200RPM drive or bigger let me know.

Thanks for your help.

Hi, I have tested on my laptop (NW8000) many disk. Try SAMSUNG HM160HC, it is a 5400 rpm IDE drive but due high density sigle plate perform very fast. Interface go at 50Mb/sec and acces time is about 17,4ms. Faster then firts generation 7200rpm disk like Hitachi 7K60 or Momentus 7200.1 but
The top is the Hitachi 7K100 100Gb (not 80Gb or 60Gb that are only a bit faster 7K60's), runs at 36Mb/sec but 14.2ms access time. A dog fight with HM160HC.
The 7K100 is extremly hard to find :(

bye
