Hi Guys,

I have a Toshiba Tecra A4 Laptop and just over a week ago my CD-ROM all of a sudden failed. I purchased a new laptop DVD-Rom Drive and windows recognised this fine. However there is a problem. The Bios does not recognise the drive at all and windows needs reinstalling as it was on its way out when the CD-Rom drive died.

So basically I can't reinstall Windows because its impossible to boot from any CD/DVD.

I've tried to reinstall windows on it by plugging the drive into another PC and doing an installation on that PC and then transferring it into the laptop but this just blue screen crashes as soon as it hits a certain file during loading.

I'm at a point now were I am considering trying linux in an attempt to fix it so its not going to remain a brick.

I've updated the BIOS but that made no difference!!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!!!
