specs:
800Mhz tbird running at 133fsb
ASUS A7V133 mobo revision 1.05 (that means I can put AthlonXP on it)
320Mb PC133 CAS2 RAM
VisionTek GeForce3 Ti500 overclocked to 265/570
30gig drive 7200rpm ATA/100
19" flat samsung 955DF monitor
My 3DMark2001 score is 5857, but its tweaked and ugly. The score with settings at which I game is 43xx.
So is 800Mhz CPU enough for todays gaming a 1024x768@32 all settings maxed up and 64bit TAP(no FSAA)? I need to be getting 40+ fps! I know that Unreal2 is an awesome looking game but to run it at the settings I want all that is needed is 1Ghz pentium3 (800Mhz tbird easily beats P3 1Ghz!) and a GeForce2 Ti(at least thats what developers say!).
I have an 800 and I think it's a bit slow (little) If it supports XP's then I would get a 1600+ they aren't that expensive or if you want the smallest effective upgrade I'd go for a 1.2 tbird. Then go to ddr later. DDR will give you a big boost.
That's only if he wants 150 fps in benches where he gets 100 now... The 800 he's got will run any game at at least 60 fps. If he doesn't get 60 fps at a given res, it's because of the video card (1600x1200x32 4x FSAA etc).
So no, he'll never get 250 fps in any game with the 800, but he'll never be under 60 fps BECAUSE of it.
Yea 800 is enough for now but you will have to upgrade in a few mounths and you wont get all you can out of you gpu right now, if you can afforde it go for an amd XP processor. There really not too much more expensive then a Duron.
