Have you ever wanted to own a handgun? But are reluctant to on the fact that you are blind? Well not anymore welcome to America my friend! In the great state of Kansas you can now legally own and operate a handgun without having to qualify, no longer will you have to hit 18 out of 25 targets you can just sort of get one. Makes perfect sense right? Of course it does!

The changes that took effect in 2010 removed language from the law giving the state the right to deny a license if applicants "suffer from a physical infirmity which prevents the safe handling of a weapon."

It also removed the requirement that people wanting to renew their licenses had to take a test in which they had to hit at least 18 of 25 targets from distances ranging from 3 yards to 10 yards. People applying for a license for the first time still are required to take the test.

Rep. Richard Carlson, a St. Marys Republican, said law-abiding citizens should be able to decide for themselves whether they are capable of carrying a concealed weapon. He conceded that his approach could lead to people being licensed to carry guns without being able to pass a basic firearms test, but said it didn't concern him.

"We tend to look for all the reasons why someone should not be qualified to carry concealed, but actually I think we should look for the reasons why they should be qualified," he said.

But how would a blind guy know that the dude who just stole his cane is standing in front of a loaded school bus when Dare Devil over here unloads not hitting his assailant and killing 4 children?

This is the same reason they've outlawed firebombing and landmines, too many innocent people killed.

Do you realize that in the U.S. you are 3 to 5 times more likely to be shot by accident or mistake by law enforcement personnel than by an armed citizen?

Truth. And if you think about it, that is not too surprising. If you are defending yourself, target ID is simple. OTOH, an LEO often gets dropped right in the middle of an existing situation and he needs to sort out the problem really fast.

For that matter, you are about 4 times as likely to die of a medical mistake than of gunshot.

Besides, the Second Amendment says "... shall not be infringed.", not "... shall not be infringed except for ...".

Thats fine and dandy....so you think people should be able to buy landmines and firebombs? Im not following.

Ever heard of Dresden?

mingo don't stir them up ...
Just smile and nod and back out of the thread and leave them to torture small animals and keep ripping the wings off flies.

Remember those Branch Davidians ... they were nice friendly people ... once.

Has this ever happened? Maybe you should analyze your irrational fears about people. I believe that fear and hatred of others is what drives fascists on the left and religious right.

Did you read what the Republican said?

He is not paranoid that that some blind guy will get a permit and then go on a blind shooting spree. Why are you?
