I would like to know why every printer i've ever known has stopped working after not being used after a while yet it they still have enough ink and cleaning doesn't help at all.

Hm... That could be enough time for the inks to solidify. Try taking out the cartridge and cleaning it with a wet Q-Tip, paper towel, or toilet paper just to see if that unclogs them at all.

That could definatly be the case. Come to think of it, I don't believe I have seen a lexmark operate for more than a month or 2... lol.
If you want a fairly reliable printer get an HP deskjet. The new ones arn't quite as hearty as the old ones were but they are still better than most.
I like my current canon i950 but it has its quirks. My hp deskjet 722c prints just like it did when I bought it brand new. That thing must be at least 6-7 or more years old, I bought it around when they first came out.
