Oh wise, Forum Pounders I really need your help this time.
I just built a system with the nForce2 crush 18g igp Chipset.
The Board is Biostar M7NCG 400.
i HAVE a Lite-on 52x32x52 cdrw and a lite-on 52x cd-rom.
Everything works great except the the burning of Cd-r's ( Have not tried cd-rw yet).
After making several coasters with the bundled Nero Express.
I called lite-on, then Nero, and finally Biostar.
Still no improvement. Next I inserted my TDK velo-cd from my system and installed it's version of Nero.
Still no luck, tried several downloadable clone CD type of softwares and got 1 music cd that skips to go with my 7 - pack of coasters.
Apparently, this Nvidia chipset is to blame???
Primary and secondary ide channels have been replaced in the device manager with one nvidia ide channel???
This claims to be working fine???
I am using an activated copy of XP pro.
Any help / advice would be very welcome.

Thank you - Morgan

I am dying here!!!
Biostar now tells me that they are currently using my exact configuration. the same lite-ons and everything??? Also he said use the XP default drivers not the newer invidia all in one ide, chipset drivers??? :(
I really do not want to re-install everything, particularily because I have already activated win XP, which was insane to do before burning a cd..
How difficult can the solution to this be???
I only want to burn a single audio CD, no multi-session nothing complex.
My customer/friend is getting pretty upset with this long wait - Please help!!!!

Burner set as master with matching lite-on 52x cd-rom as slave. All on secondary IDE.
Stayed up all night battling and did get WIN Xp to automatically search the windows folder and it installed a NON-NVIDIA drive and presto I now see the familiar primary and secondary IDE channels. Of course, I jumped the gun and prematurely celebrated. Still errors out at 5% in the nero express 5.5 software. :( Later I went back to control panel/ secondary IDE controller properties and had to enable dma mode 2. I assume this is correct?? It was on PIO which was supposedlly impossible under win XP according to the Biostar guys.. :( Still will not burn a simple pink floyd music CD???? I also got a power mis-calibration message at the end of another 5% completed Nero session. I am closer Now that I have both IDE channels?? Right???? Please address the power - related error ( I have a good 400watt PSU).
please advise.
It's always something simple...
Thanks a billion..

Ahead has something to say about power calibration errors.

:( :(

Any Ideas - Please see entire thread....

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

update the firmware for your burner and try a different brand of cd's. Perhaps a popular brand name like verbatum or something.

You should indeed try using the default MS IDE drivers and the burner should indeed be in DMA mode2 so that is a good start.

Sounds like an IDE cable problem to me.
Have you tried using a different (80 wire) IDE cable yet? I've seen this problem somewhere before and I remember that fixed it.

Good Idea, but I have already tried a 40 and an 80, both of which worked or didn't work the same. I hope that makes sense. Trying it in my main A7n8X system now, I had to give up my TDK Velo CD to my customer, and still not working. The only thing left is the firmware and messing with the ide channel connections. I have a Raptor SATA raid0 HDD so right now I have an Aopen DVD-Rom and this damn Crap-on; both drives are on the primary IDE with the Crap-on CD-RW as the master...????? ;) I guess I will try each of them as master on the 2 IDE channels.. By the way the Aopen DVD is working flawlessly, but the crap-on of course will not burn, but now will not even read or play tunes?? The crap-on is"working properly" According to the device manager. I never realized a damn CD-RW could cause so much stress.. I am a Newbie when it comes to firmware, I assume I would half to FLASH the Blasted chip on this Crap-On. I can not believe all the glowing reviews this damn thing has recieved on New Egg, which is where I buy everything. Please comment.
Thank you for all your help...

My one most important question I haven't asked yet, have you tried a different type of media? It could be a media issue.
Updating the firmware usually adds more media codes so it's rarely a bad idea to update it. It is simple and can be done from Windows. Go here to download the newest firmware.exe for the drive (the website has been really slow the last few days...)

On the other hand, the easiest way to determine if it is a hardware issue would be to put the drive in a totally different PC and see if the problems persists.

In the drives defense, once working properly it is one of the best, if not the best 52x CD burner on the market. Due to the complicated nature of a PC there will always be problems with every single piece of hardware no matter what manufacturer from time to time (these types of IT forums wouldn't exist otherwise). Unfortunatly you get to be one of those people in this instance.

If you have tried all of the above it may indeed be a hardware issue.
Try flashing the firmware first (link is above).

If that doesn't work I wouldn't waste anymore time on it, phones LiteOn for a RMA number or take it back to the supplier and try another one.

As already stated, don't call it CrapOn (although that is slightly ammusing). Every manufacturer will have a DOA unit from time to time. You might have been an unlucky one this time.
The drive is an excellent drive once it is working properly :)

Its always best to separate read and burn ROM drives onto primary and secondary IDE`s. Goodluck!
