Just bought a CD-RW by BENQ. It is a 40x12x48x Model 4012P.

I'm using NTI CDMaker Gold ver6.0.0.9502

My OS is Win 2000 Pro.

It will only write CD-R at 16x speed. I think it is supposed to write at 40x. The blanks I am using are Imation 80Min/700MB 48X.

It reads audio and Data CDs fine.

Maybe someone could tell me what could cause this problem?

Thanks, any input would be appreciated!

It is probably a media issue. Try a high quality media and see if you get the same results.
I recently had some Princo discs that would only burn at 16x on my 40x capable LiteOn burner. Other media burns fine at 40x.

You could try and update the firmware if you haven't tried that already, often new media codes are added that can increase compatibility with more discs.
