I have a Microsoft 5 button (inc wheel)USB Opticle Intellimouse, but only 3 buttons work. Device Manager reports HID Device. I assume it's drivers that are causing the problem. Mouse drivers in WinME list/show drivers that should work but don't. Searched the internet but none seem to be the correct ones.

Maybe I should use a PS2 to USB adapter?

Also, two more questions:
1) What does HID stand for?
2) There should be no obvious difference in performance/operation if a USB mouse is connected using either USB or PS2 to USB adapter- is this correct?
3) Read a technical computer book and it said that you should not mix- PS2 and USB devices,- same devices only should be used ie. Don't mix USB mouse and PS2 keyboard or other way around. Any truth in this?

Thank,s

2)I was always under the asumption that to gain use of the extra mouse buttons you needed to have the mouse plugged in via usb and have the apropriate software installed for it. The fourth mouse button on my Logitech mouse never worked until I plugged it in via USB.
3)There is no problem mixing usb and ps2 devices. You could even have a ps2 and usb mouse on there at the same time. It would just be a little strange :)

Just having the drivers alone is sometimes not enough for using those extra buttons. Do you have the <A HREF="http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=4348502a-61be-4072-abe2-e3fc3aa0eee6&DisplayLang=en" target="_new">IntelliPoint</A> software installed?
