I'm thinking of buying a western digital 36 gig 10000 rpm SATA drive, can anyone tell me if I'm going to notice the dif over my 120 gig western digital 8meg 100 ATA drive. The plan is to load the OS and my games onto the 36 GIG, and use the 120 gig for my Music, movies and Images. Usually I have only about 4 or 5 games loaded at any time.

Will it boot up faster along with my 2700XP chip and 1 Gig of ram ?

Will it load levels faster ?

Cause if I'm not going to notice any differance I cant see the reason.

It will definitely be faster. Noticable? Maybe. I have a 74 GB raptor and I haven't noticed a huge improvement in boot time (actually it's slower as the mobo needs to load the sata drivers), but levels load much quicker now, especially levels in new games like UT2004.

There are other reasons to get a second hard drive though. It keeps things better organized, transfers between your os drive and your data drive are much faster... etc.

I've got a 120 GB SATA WD drive as my data drive and I'm not going back to having just a single hard drive again. It's just much nicer.

Some day I'll be rich and famous for inventing a device that allows you to stab people in the face over the internet.

thanks for that, It bugs me waiting on levels to load so anything that speeds it up, and the game load as well is much sought after.

i doubt you will feel that much difference specially in windows and program loading,
i have not tried the wd360 in games.

however, if u have the extra moeny and no upgrade is needed except u want to add a hard drive, then go with the wd740

i am not happy with my wd360.
